Company History

150 Years of quality building

Enos Teague, who founded the business in 1860

2010 saw us proudly celebrating our 150th anniversary.

Things have changed a lot since Enos Teague founded the company in 1860 but current directors, cousins Jerry and Paul Teague, are continuing the family tradition.

The company originated in St Teath, near Camelford. Two of his sons took on work in Crackington Haven shortly after World War I, and ended up moving there permanently.

During this period, they built many of the houses in and around Crackington Haven, as well as two village halls and a number of council houses in the area.

1980s – National Trust and churches

The 1980s saw us take on a lot of work for the National Trust, doing conservation an maintenance on properties from Morwenstow to Port Isaac – including award-winning restoration work on a cottage near Boscastle.

From late-1980s onwards, we started working on churches, something we still do, and have carried out work on many churches, from Launcells in the north to Padstow in the south.

More recently, we have built and restored a wide variety of properties, including working on the oldest inhabited manor house in England.

We are specialists in cob repairs and restoration, and the traditional methods of using lime renders – which help prevent damp and condensation by allowing older properties to breathe – but we also use a number of modern materials, such as hemp render and limecrete which, amongst other things, helps with insulation values on listed buildings.

As well as repairs and restoration, we also undertake hi-tech new builds using the latest eco-friendly technology – such as ground source heat recovery, underfloor heating, hot air recovery systems, passive air ventilation systems and solar panels.

Award winning builders

We won a Cornish buildings award in 1998 for a barn conversion in Crackington Haven, and a new oak framed house we build in 2008 was featured in national magazine.

Throughout our history, and throughout all the projects we do, some factors are consistent: a commitment quality and to making sure you, as our client, get the results you dream of, and an insistence on using high quality materials, and skilled tradesmen – whether as staff or sub-contractors.

TH Teague & Sons have been building locally for 150 years. We have an excellent reputation, and intend to keep that reputation for the next 150 years. When you use us for your building project you know that the quality of the job will be matched by our history, knowledge, skills expertise and pride in our work.
